Photo Maker FAQ

Practical answers to help you prepare and check your photo.

Is the photo maker free?

The core cropping, sizing and download tools are currently free with no account required. External printing services may charge for paper copies. Clicking ads is not required.

How do I make an ID photo?

Check the application method first: some processes require an original digital upload or a commercial photographer. Where this editing workflow is permitted, select a sharp, recent portrait, choose the print dimensions, adjust the crop and inspect the downloaded result.

Which size should I choose?

Use the dimensions for your exact document and application method. Presets primarily calculate print dimensions. Printed and online applications may differ, and generic sizes do not imply an official document. Read the preset’s application note and original sources before preparing a file.

What makes a suitable source photo?

Start with a clear, evenly lit image against a plain background. Follow the authority’s rules for expression, glasses, clothing and head coverings. Avoid filters. Resizing cannot restore detail to a blurry or compressed image.

Is acceptance guaranteed?

No. The tool does not verify identity, detect every problem or certify compliance. The receiving organization decides whether your photo is acceptable.

Does changing the background remove the original background?

No. The control fills the canvas visible around a photo or through transparent areas. It does not cut a person out of an opaque image. Take the original against the required background and check editing restrictions.

Can I use an AI portrait for a passport?

Do not assume it is allowed. Generated portraits are for creative use. U.S. passport guidance, for example, prohibits digital alterations and AI editing. Use a real photograph and follow your issuing authority’s rules.

Are my photos uploaded?

The core editor processes the selected image locally. Optional AI features send text and settings through our server to Google. Advertising and hosting involve third-party processing. See the Privacy Policy for details.

What do pixels, millimeters and DPI mean?

Pixels describe a digital image; millimeters and inches describe printed size. At 300 dots per inch, a 2-inch side corresponds to 600 pixels. The editor calculates pixels for that print density. Printer settings still control final physical size.

How do I print a 4×6-inch sheet?

Choose 4×6-inch paper and actual-size or 100% scaling. Disable fit-to-page and automatic cropping. A4 and Letter are different sizes. Measure the result before cutting and follow the authority’s paper requirements.

Does it work on phones?

Use a current mobile browser to choose a photo, adjust it and download. Camera and saving behavior depend on device permissions. If a large image fails, try a smaller copy with enough detail for your required output.

What if my image will not open?

Try JPEG or PNG. HEIC conversion may depend on the file and available memory; if it fails, export a JPEG from your device first. Renaming a file extension does not convert its format. Keep the original.

Can I share or install this page?

Use the header Share or Install buttons. Sharing uses the device menu where supported, with a copy-link alternative. Installation depends on your browser and operating system. Installing does not guarantee offline access.

Why might AI features fail?

They require a configured online service and can fail because of network problems, service limits or server settings. The local editor remains available without AI. Do not send sensitive information in prompts.

How do I report a problem?

Use the Contact page. Include the page, browser and device. For a photo rule correction, include an official source link. You do not need to send a personal portrait or identity document.

Follow a complete walkthrough

Read the photo preparation guide, compare print dimensions with digital pixels, or work through upload and download troubleshooting. For a physical print, use the 4×6-inch actual-size checklist.

Check the original requirements

Consult the U.S. Department of State photo guidance for U.S. passports. For other applications, use the relevant issuing authority’s website. Printed and online requirements can differ.

Read our Privacy Policy for data details, or contact the operator about a tool problem.
